So, with the election finally over I decided I needed to express some thoughts and just move on. In general, I'm only slightly happy with the results. Here are some random thoughts:
Prop 2- (Standards for confining farm animals)
It passed, but I'm still not sure how I feel about it. As an animal lover, I feel that all animals should have the best of living conditions, BUT as a realist I know that farm animals are bred to be our food. No matter what spin anyone puts on it they are bred for one purpose: to be eaten by you and I. These animals have never known any different living conditions. I am afraid that by prop 2 passing, the prices of farm food will increase greatly to cover the costs of farmers having to revamp their entire farming processes. Guess we'll find out soon.
Prop 4: Parent notification before terminating a minor's pregnancy
Okay-anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about this topic. I believe that EVERY woman (young and old) has the inherent right to decide what she feels best for herself. Having the government try to tell a woman what to do with her own body is repugnant. Wether it is right or wrong, a woman should be able to do what she wants. Last I checked the government did not own our bodies (they're just trying to). The choice is ours. The choice to have an abortion or not is an extremely personal choice. Personal choices should have absolutely nothing to do with the government.
Anyways, back to prop 4: THANK GOODNESS IT DID NOT PASS!! I know some people think this proposition would prevent young girls from "...making the mistake of their lives..." but it do you really think these young girls wouldn't find some way to have an abortion if they really wanted to? Get realistic people! All this proposition would accomplish is unnecesary complications and even deaths from girls going to unqualified hacks above and below the border. I do feel that abortion is a serious decision that should not be made lightly, however, it is a decision that should be made individually. Not only should it not be the gov's decision, but it shouldn't be influenced by friends, parents, extended family...catch my drift? I better stop on this one or else I'd be here for pages and pages.

The Biggie- Prop 8: Rights of same sex couples to marry
Like prop 4, I feel very strongly about this issue as do many people. It passed 52.2% to 47.8%. I only want to make a few statements which I want people to really ponder. Please don't automatically dismiss these statments because they are different than your own. Please, don't take offence...just read 'em.
What gives one person the fight to tell another who they can love?
As a married person, how dare I ever have the audacity to tell "Dan" he can't have the same bond of marriage) with "Jake".
Are people really so self righteous that they can't open your mind to different, non traditional ways of life?
People say gay marriage has a negative effect on children. I'd like to ask those people if they have ever met a same-sex couple. And as for those who believe homosexual people are morally corrupt...I won't go into that right now...
Presidential election:
I have to say I am satisfied that Obama won over McCain. That's it-sweet and simple.
So, there it is. To those who have read this post-do not take anything personally. I am who I am and I feel how I feel regardless of how society may judge me. That's all this is-a personal expression with no intention of offending anyone-just the hope to inspire thought.

word up home girl! i love you for expressing your thoughts so openly. i do hope they make people ponder and think. we are all entitled to our own opinions...it just sucks than during times like these, you tend to see people differently for how they feel...more over, how they choose to express themselves. dammit, can't we all just get along! you'd think that we have bigger problems that need to be dealt with right now!
Nice thoughts Erica. It is easy to say that when I tend to agree with your comments. It is interesting that religious people will spent so much time, money and energy telling others how to live and what to be! Especially when it's 10% of the population that are just trying to be happy. The bible condoned slavery and allowed for no women's rights. Glad we got past those, of course not without anger and blood shed!
You know "Good people do good things, Evil people do evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
People are raised and live with a great amount of fear, in every society. We pass laws based on fear and we fear what we don't know, or what we are told to fear. Nothing is scarier than the closed mind that does not grow throughout its life. Myopic belief is easy and ignorance is not bliss, it is still ignorance. Life is short why live with fear, we have a rare opportunity in human existence
to enjoy life.
With a 50% divorce rate among heterosexual couples, why not let people give it a go. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's wrong. I have been coaching kids for a long time, they come from varying situations and have their own set of problems; regardless of marital, religious and familial home life. Some are just squared away better than others.
Obama is a very bright man, as was Clinton. We have had 8 years of a weak, narrow minded, corrupt president. However, both parties are corrupt they have to be to raise the funds necessary to elect people to office. Until we change campaign finance we will not rid ourselves of professional, corrupted poiticos. But Obama will be a centrist, our taxes will go up and we should respond in two years w/ a voting revolution! Less government, close some armed forces bases and quit thinking we are the special people. Show other countries how to live by example not force and get out of everyone's business. Bin Laden gets strength from our occupation of what his religion calls holy land. Let them have it, it's not holy its dry and desolate, leave them alone.
People love their parties like their religions so it will not happen. They like to be told what to believe, how to believe and when to believe.
I am proud of you for having opinions, a willingness to share them and an eloquent way of expressing them. Love you, Dad
I was so excited to read your thoughts and I totally agree. Coming from such a conservative state it is very common for everyone to just follow the croud. I totally think same-sex marriage should be allowed somewhere and why did California want to take it away? I don't get it.
Anywho-thanks for your thoughts. I loved 'em!!
