Ridiculous

What makes doctors think they can charge whatever amount they want for services?? I recently became interested in going to a holistic doctor to try to help treat my Hashimoto's symptoms which haven't gone away with my thyroid replacement. I found one that specializes in Hashi's, but found out that he charges $500.00 for the first visit and charges a $2000.00 new patient fee!!! WHAT?!?! How can someone feel it's okay to charge people that much money-especially when they know insurance doesn't cover any of it!? I am guessing that it's because people usually use holistic doctors as a last resort...? It makes me sooo angry!
